An Unexpected Journey: How Yoga Found Me

"When the student is ready the teacher will appear"- Tao Te Ching

Where to even begin. I wish you were here to pour you a cup of chai so you could feel the love, wonderment, awe and passion I have for my Yoga journey and the community that continues to rally around me.

I was just out of my teens and still trying to figure out what I was doing with my life, when I stumbled across a Yoga class that changed everything. It wasn't that it was some amazing teacher or a beautiful space- it was how in that moment something deep from my soul called to me- like an ancient remembering- and for the first time in forever I felt calm, relaxed, and at home.

I wasn't even supposed to be going to this class, I thought it was a spin class which makes this unexpected encounter even more special- much like my Yogic journey that continues to unfold in this way laced with many unexplained mystical experiences and coincidences.

Again- through a random alignment of the stars (as I write this I laugh because I am a natural skeptic at heart) but, I met my Guru, Shri Prasad Rangnekar, my spiritual teacher and mentor, who I have now studied with for the past 15 years. My Guru imparted not only wisdom but also the spiritual name Jagruti, meaning “the one who wakes up and awakens others,” a name that fuels my passion for guiding others on their journey of self-transformation.

Small Town Yoga

"Do small things with great love"- Mother Teresa

After studying with my Guru at a very basic ashram in the foothills of the Himalayas, I felt called to come home and create a space where people could experience the depth and wisdom of traditional Yoga. That vision became Lokah Sangha Yoga, a hidden gem in Dryden, Ontario, that has since become a sanctuary for students seeking holistic teachings and meaningful transformation. I ran the studio with so much love for an entire decade. In that time we trained over 60 people to become yoga teachers, most to just learn more of this magic that seemed to be permeating through our town of just 8000, and many others to become incredible inspirational teachers in their own right. The beauty of this small town studio, was that never before had there been commercialized yoga, hot yoga or the trends you see in big cities. This kept the teachings so sacred, undiluted and incredibly transformative. Though I made the tough decision to move my business away from the brick and mortar model, our local Yoga community remains strong & dedicated as supporters, seekers and friends.

LSY Online & The New Forest Studio

Global Sangha & Healing Retreat

I always struggled with the idea of moving to a larger center for more opportunities within the 'Yoga World', but my community and lifestyle here meant so much to me. Then the pandemic showed me how I could still make an impact working with individuals and groups online- opening up a whole new world of possibilities. So my husband and I decided to make a move and buy a log home fixer upper on 22 acres in the pristine, Canadian boreal forest. Our beautiful healing retreat will house students for our 200hr Yoga Teacher Trainings and many more retreats throughout the year and seasons.
